Sustainability at RCF
Sustainability is core to RCF’s business. Our endeavour is to minimise carbon foot print. Accordingly, RCF have reformulated CSR Policy which will guide sustainability initiatives in the years to come. RCF have taken a number of initiatives to reduce energy consumption at both of its units – Trombay and Thal (Maharashtra).
In the quest towards Sustainable Development, RCF has set-up two Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) symbolizing our commitment towards Environment and Society. Both the STPs can treat 45.5 million liters per day (MLD) of sewage to generate about 31.5 MLD treated water which is used as process water in Trombay unit. A portion of this treated water is also supplied to M/s BPCL. These plants serve a dual purpose. Firstly, it solves the issue of treatment and disposal of 45.5 MLD of sewage. Secondly, it allowed BMC to channelize distribution of more water to low-income group and slum areas, where more than 75% of the residents are considered as Water Deficient Households (where water consumption is less than 100 litres per consumer per day).
RCF has developed and has put into practice comprehensive Environment Management Plan with highest consideration towards mitigation of Pollution.
With a view to harness renewable energy sources, RCF has forayed into solar power generation by setting-up rooftop as well as ground mounted Solar power generation facilities at Thal and Trombay Unit with an aggregate capacity of 5.71 MWp. The power generated is used for captive consumption, thereby reducing your Company’s power import to the equivalent extent.
RCF has been operating Briquette Fired Boiler at RCF Thal. Briquette (Bio-Mass) or ‘White Coal’ is made-up from agriculture and forest natural waste and is considered as Carbon neutral. It can be efficiently used to replace fossil fuel. The project has been commissioned on 12th May 2025.
As a part of expansion strategy we have undertaken major projects such as Coal Based Fertilizer Plant at Talcher, New NPK Plant at Thal, etc.
We are proud of our accomplishments on the sustainability front so far; nevertheless we also recognize that we have a long way to go further.
